Testimony to the power of Pilates

Pilates is a great way to maintain a healthy core and flexibility throughout life.
Most of us find ourselves hunched over a keyboard for a large part of the day. Inevitably this leads to bad posture which can result in back pain.
There is little more frustrating than starting to be making real progress with running, tennis, golf, dancing, circuit training or any other form of exercise only to then have that progress halted through lower back pain or strained ligaments, tendons or muscles.
Similarly, more leisurely pursuits can be enjoyed to a much greater extent when you’re fully mobile.
When Joseph Pilates developed his 34 basic exercises that form the basis of modern Pilates, he drew on his experience as a gymnast, dancer and boxer and knew that the most important thing was to focus on developing and maintaining core strength and flexibility. He further adapted his exercises to facilitate rehabilitation for people recovering from injury or compensating for limiting conditions.
In any single Pilates session, there are exercises covering the front, back and side of the core all of which are layered to facilitate progress for all levels. This ensures a holistic development of the core and avoids back pain resulting from imbalance of strength.
